Function: The PY800 functions as an efficiency diode, a component that helps recover energy from the magnetic deflection circuit in the horizontal output stage of a TV. This improved the efficiency of the set and allowed it to handle the higher flyback voltages required for 110° deflection-angle picture tubes.
Replacement: The PY800 is a slightly upgraded version of the PY81 valve and can be used as a substitute, but a PY81 cannot always be used in place of a PY800
